RVR do the double at the Blackburn Winter Warmer

Ribble Valley Runners pulled off a stunning team prize double at the Blackburn Winter Warmer winning both the Team of 10 and Team of 20 prizes for the first 10 and 20 club runners over the finish line.

What an amazing achievement for Team RVR and somehow we’re going to have to get through the 10 bottles of prosecco we were awarded! Roll on the AGM party!

Such was the strength in depth of Team RVR that we would also have won the prizes for Team of 30 and 40 if they’d been awarded with an incredible 46 members completing the challenging course which included the gruelling ascent of Buncer Lane right at the start.

It was great to see so many members taking part – many competing in their first big race outside Clitheroe and there were lots of great individual performances with several new 10K PBs being set on such a tough course.

The first male Ribble Valley Runner to finish was Dan Grundy with a top 10 finish overall. Congratulations also to Helen Roden who was the first female RVR club runner (just pipping Hannah T by one second) and finishing as 4th female overall.

Both Dan and Helen finished second in their respective age categories.

Team RVR had other notable individual success with Hannah Thornberry and Kate Griffiths winning their age category prizes.

Ian Smith, Dianne Haggar and Emily Nolan also finished in the top 3 in their age categories.

It was also great to see so many junior runners linked to RVR members taking part in the junior 2K run including a first place finish for Lana and third place for Ada in their respective age categories.

Well done to all our individual prize winners but a massive well done to all of Team RVR for an outstanding team effort!

Many thanks also to all the various RVR supporters and photographers who helped make the day such a success.

The race itself was very well organised by Blackburn Road Runners with 545 finishers and the great support from the club marshals around the course was hugely appreciated.

Thank you Team BRR!

The Blackburn Winter Warmer was the final race in the current RVR championship – many thanks to Joanne Motley for all her hard work in organising this, It really has proved amazingly successful at bringing the club together and has encouraged so many members to just get out there and enjoy racing at whatever level they’re at and strive to get even faster!

We’re all looking forward to the prize giving at the AGM (prosecco time!) and seeing what Jo has in store for us for our next RVR championship series!
